Kentucky fans should exhale
This is why we needed to wait until a day like Saturday to fully evaluate the Wildcats. This is why if healthy, Jayden Quaintance is a bonafide candidate to be the National Defensive Player of the Year. Operating with a full roster for the first time this season, Kentucky put together a terrific second half en route to a 78-66 come-from-behind victory on Saturday over St. John’s in the CBS Sports Classic. With Quaintance — who had 10 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks in 18 minutes — and Pitt transfer Jaland Lowe (13 points, three assists, three rebounds) now back in the lineup, things are finally starting to align in Lexington. Keep a close eye on Mark Pope’s squad, who will next host Bellarmine on Tuesday.
Hubert Davis has answered the bell
There were major questions entering this season about the state of North Carolina’s program and those questions have been answered emphatically. After essentially retooling his entire roster and losing veteran guard Seth Trimble for about a month due to a forearm injury, Davis has the Tar Heels at 11-1 entering Monday’s game against East Carolina in Chapel Hill. North Carolina is starting to look like North Carolina again and that’s a credit to Davis.
A big day for the Big 12
Houston’s win over Arkansas and Texas Tech’s upset victory over Duke would be great individual accomplishments. Together, they’re yet another major boost to the Big 12, who continues to separate itself as the best conference in the sport. Don’t be shocked if this league has multiple number one seeds in the 2026 NCAA Tournament and several of the Top 16 protected seeds on Selection Sunday.
On The Side
- UConn has won 20 straight games against DePaul entering today’s Big East tilt in Chicago.
- Skyy Clark is the first player in the history of UCLA’s program to make six or more three-point shots in back-to-back games.
- Today’s game between Gonzaga and Oregon at the Moda Center in Portland is only the third all-time meeting between the two programs.
- 11 of Nebraska’s final 20 regular season games will be played at Pinnacle Bank Arena, starting with tonight’s matchup against North Dakota. Remember: This program has NEVER won a game in the NCAA Tournament.
- Is Vanderbilt’s Duke Miles the least appreciated transfer in college basketball? He’s definitely in the conversation. The 6-2 guard is averaging 17.3 points, 4.3 assists, and 3.0 rebounds entering today’s game at Wake Forest. The Dores are currently 11-0.
