The Breakfast Buffet: Indiana has a “win and in” opportunity at Oregon, Texas A&M/Auburn, Silas Demary Jr.

Here’s today’s installment of “The Breakfast Buffet”, a daily column that can be found here every single morning getting you caught up to date on everything that’s happened from the day/night before and everything that’s going to happen in the next 24 hours.

Things To Sample

Indiana has a “win and in” opportunity at Oregon
Nothing is for certain when it comes to the NCAA Tournament’s selection process, but it’s hard to see the Hoosiers missing March Madness if they beat the Ducks tonight in Eugene. Indiana currently has no Quad 3 or 4 losses and owns a home win over Purdue and a road win at Michigan State on its resume. The addition of a Quad 1 win against an opponent of Oregon’s caliber on the road would essentially cement a trip to the NCAA Tournament for the Hoosiers for the third time in the past four seasons under Mike Woodson. The Ducks have won five straight games.

Texas A&M tries to snap its four-game losing streak against Auburn
That’s easier said than done. The Aggies were slated to be a number two seed in the NCAA Tournament a few weeks ago, but a recent losing skid has halted their momentum. Three of those four defeats were by eight points or more and All-American guard Wade Taylor IV is just 14-50 from the field and 6-30 from three-point range during that span. Auburn meanwhile, will take a 27-2 record into tonight’s game in College Station and has already locked up the top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. It will take a tremendous effort for Texas A&M to beat the Tigers, who have won six straight games.

Silas Demary Jr. is surging for Georgia

The Bulldogs are chasing their first NCAA Tournament appearance under Mike White and Demary is a major reason why they’re in position to accomplish that mission. The 6-5 sophomore is entering 20.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in his last six games entering tonight’s clash with South Carolina in Columbia. Demary is quickly becoming Georgia’s go-to scoring option on the perimeter to complement freshman big Asa Newell (15.2 points, 6.2 rebounds) inside.

On The Side.

  • The most amazing part of St. John’s dream season? The Red Storm’s four losses have only come by a combined seven points.
  • One under-the-radar ACC storyline: Stanford’s Kyle Smith is one win away from leading a fourth program to a 20-win season. Smith was previously the head coach at Washington State, San Francisco, and Columbia.
  • Ryan Conwell is averaging 17.4 points and shooting 41.2 percent from three-point range during Xavier’s current five-game winning streak.
  • New Mexico’s Nelly Junior Joseph (13.6 points, 10.8 rebounds) has had six games this season with 15 or more rebounds.
  • Randy Bennett said on this week’s College Hoops Today Podcast that Saint Mary’s would like to do an annual series with Gonzaga after the Bulldogs leave the WCC for the new Pac-12 following the 2025-26 season.
