Things To Sample
Caleb Wilson visits Rupp Arena
North Carolina’s trip to Lexington to play Kentucky in tonight’s ACC/SEC Challenge is a made-for-TV matchup. It’s also another opportunity for the 6-10 Wilson to reiterate why he’s one of the best players in the sport. The Tar Heels’ prized freshman had 18 points and seven rebounds on Thanksgiving Day against Michigan State and is averaging 19.9 points and 9.9 rebounds while shooting an astronomical 58.7 percent from the field. Wilson is playing like a first-team All-American.
UConn/Kansas
At full strength, the Huskies look like they’re one of the top three of four teams in the sport. The Jayhawks meanwhile, showed incredible fight last week in Las Vegas with three wins in three days over Notre Dame, Syracuse, and Tennessee without Darryn Peterson (hamstring). It remains to be seen when Peterson will return to game action, but even if he does tonight, the Jayhawks will have their hands full with the Huskies. This is the second time in the past three seasons that UConn will visit Lawrence as Dan Hurley’s squad also played Kansas on Dec. 1st, 2023 as part of the now-defunct Big East-Big 12 Battle. The Jayhawks will play at UConn next season in the back end of this home-and-home series.
Florida’s guards enter the fire at Duke
Xaivian Lee (9.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.0 assists) and Boogie Fland (12.0 points) have been a work in progress for the Gators and they’re going to have to play significantly better than they’ve played if Florida is going to have a chance to stay close tonight at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Lee and Fland are both currently shooting less than 25.0 percent from three-point range and have a combined 45 assists to 22 turnovers this season. The Blue Devils enter tonight’s game at 8-0, with National Player of the Year candidate Cameron Boozer (22.9 points, 9.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.1 blocks) continuing to separate himself as the best player in the sport.
On The Side
- Florida/Duke, UConn/Kansas, and Kentucky/North Carolina are all tipping off tonight between 7:30 PM ET and 9:30 PM ET. I’m not saying these all should or could be standalone games, but it would be nice to be see games of this magnitude spread out a little bit more.
- Purdue’s game tonight at Rutgers is the only time that the Boilers will play outside of the State of Indiana until Jan. 3rd at Wisconsin.
- Miami’s Malik Reneau is averaging career-highs in points (20.8) and rebounds (7.3) entering tonight’s game at Ole Miss as part of the ACC/SEC Challenge.
- Something is off with Texas Tech. The Red Raiders were taken to the wire on Sunday against Wyoming and have given up an average of 83.3 points this season against power conference opponents. Grant McCasland’s squad will face LSU, Arkansas, and Duke in December.
- The NCAA released the first NET rankings of the 2025-26 season on Monday. You can view the rankings by clicking HERE.
