New Mexico has hired former Minnesota head coach Richard Pitino as its next head basketball coach, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation.
An official announcement is expected on Tuesday.
Pitino replaces Paul Weir, who served as the Lobos’ head coach for the past four seasons.
Pitino was 141-123 in eight seasons at New Mexico and advanced to two NCAA Tournaments. The Gophers also won the 2013 Postseason NIT.
