This is March!
That means it’s time for some end of season awards.
Check out below for an in-depth list of the top coaches in college basketball during the 2025-26 season:
College Hoops Today National Coach of the Year
Fred Hoiberg, Nebraska: This Huskers have never won an NCAA Tournament game, but their odds of breaking that streak has drastically went up this season thanks to the brilliance of Hoiberg. The 53-year old coach — who was previously the point man for both the Chicago Bulls and Iowa State — has done the best coaching job of his career this season and led Nebraska to an unfathomable 25-5 record. With two more wins, the Huskers will set the record for program victories, which is currently 26.
Other Finalists
Jon Scheyer, Duke: Is it an oversight or an insult? Scheyer has made replacing Mike Krzyzewski look like a seamless transition and still doesn’t seem to get nearly the credit he deserves for what he’s done in Durham. One year after taking his alma mater to the Final Four, Scheyer has the Blue Devils in position to be the top overall seed in the NCAA Tournament despite having five new starters. He’s 116-24 in four seasons since taking over at Duke.
Tommy Lloyd, Arizona: Lloyd is a joke. In five seasons as a head coach, he’s won nearly 80 percent of his games and has kept the Wildcats firmly among college basketball’s elite. Arizona is entrenched to be the number one seed in the West Region on Selection Sunday, which will mark the second time that the Wildcats have been a one seed under Lloyd’s stewardship.
Dusty May, Michigan: The Wolverines won just eight games two years ago prior to May’s arrival and have since again become one of the top programs in the country. Michigan has already won an outright Big Ten regular season title and locked up a number one seed in the NCAA Tournament thanks to May, who previously took Florida Atlantic to the Final Four in 2023. The Wolverines — who won the Big Ten Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 a year ago in their first season under May — are currently 27-2.
Travis Steele, Miami (OH): A once-in-a-lifetime season is happening for the Redhawks and Steele is the architect. Under Steele, this program has won 25 games or more in back-to-back years for the first time ever. Miami (OH) is currently 30-0 and just one win away from a perfect regular season.
