Johnny Juzang was UCLA’s primary offensive focal point during last spring’s surprise run to the Final Four, but Jaime Jaquez was also a major factor.
His role should only be enhanced this season.
“He can have a big year offensively,” UCLA coach Mick Cronin said of Jaquez this week on the College Hoops Today Podcast. “Jaime made his bones here with his life, energy, and competitive spirit, but he’s a weapon because we can play four guards and he would be our biggest guard. He creates mismatches on offense and he can guard bigger guys defensively. We made an adjustment going into the NCAA Tournament so that he could be a bigger part of our offense and it helped us.”
The 6-7 Jaquez averaged 15 points, 6.3 rebounds, three assists, and 1.5 steals during six NCAA Tournament games last spring.
He was also named a third-team Preseason All-American by College Hoops Today.
UCLA is currently ranked SECOND in the ROTHSTEIN 45.
