Hall-of-Famer Larry Brown is set to join Penny Hardaway’s staff at Memphis as an assistant coach, multiple sources told College Hoops Today.
An official announcement is expected this week.
The 80-year old Brown coached Hardaway with the New York Knicks during the 2005-06 season and the two have remained close since. Brown has not coached in college or the NBA since he resigned as SMU’s head coach in 2016. He did coach briefly in 2018 with Auxilium Torino in Italy.
Memphis is a combined 63-32 in three years under Hardaway, but has yet to reach the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers are currently ranked 41st in the ROTHSTEIN 45.
Brown will replace Tony Madlock, who recently was named the head coach of South Carolina State.
