Chris Beard is used to recalibrating his roster on an annual basis, but this year feels different.
With no scrimmages or exhibitions permitted due to COVID-19, Beard — who’s about to begin his fifth season at Texas Tech — admits he has some concerns about beginning a year without a true dress rehearsal.
“We’re concerned about not having any scrimmages or exhibitions,” Beard said Monday on the College Hoops Today Podcast. “I know teams like us that don’t have a lot of experience playing together really need those early practices. For us here, we’re just trying to put the team together.”
The Red Raiders will welcome seven new players to their roster in 20-21, headlined by VCU graduate transfer Marcus Santos-Silva.
Kyler Edwards, Terrance Shannon Jr., and Kevin McCullar are the only players who return from last season’s 18-13 team who averaged double-figure minutes.
Texas Tech is currently ranked 25th in the ROTHSTEIN 45.
