Chris Beard knows that it’s coming. All of West Texas does too.
Beard’s first game back at United Supermarkets Arena when he returns to Lubbock as Texas’ coach is already one of the more anticipated games of the 21-22 season.
“Texas Tech is going to make a lot of money that night,” Beard said Monday on the College Hoops Today Podcast. “But you know me — I’m where my feet are. I’m trying to win today. But I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: Nobody respects Texas Tech more than me.”
Beard was a combined 112-55 in five years at Texas Tech and led the Red Raiders to the 2019 national title game, where it lost to Virginia in overtime. Texas Tech was also a combined 9-3 in NCAA Tournament games during Beard’s tenure.
He took the Texas job on April 1st.
Beard’s former top assistant — Mark Adams — was promoted to head coach of Texas Tech following his departure.
Both the Longhorns (20) and Red Raiders (42) are currently ranked in the ROTHSTEIN 45.
