Austin Hutcherson has yet to play a game for Illinois, but he’s already generating all sorts of buzz.
Brad Underwood added to it this week.
“I think there’s a little bit of Klay Thompson in him,” Underwood said of Hutcherson Monday on the College Hoops Today Podcast. “I’m not saying he’s a Klay Thompson caliber shooter just yet, but he’s not far off. Klay has turned into an elite defender in the NBA and Hutch has all those tools as well.”
The 6-6 Hutcherson hasn’t played in two years after transferring from Wesleyan (Division III). He missed last season due to a back injury and redshirted during the 19-20 campaign. Hutcherson averaged 20 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists during his final year at Wesleyan while shooting 39.2 percent from three-point range.
Illinois was ranked third in this week’s Big Ten Offseason Breakdown and is currently EIGHTH in the ROTHSTEIN 45.
