Micah Shrewsberry has yet to coach a game at Penn State, but he’s already made notes of when the program has had pockets of success.
“There is a blueprint in place to be successful at Penn State,” Shrewsberry said this week on the College Hoops Today Podcast. “The past staff did a great recruiting the Philadelphia area. We need to continue to do that as well as some of the other things that made this program successful.”
Shrewsberry’s predecessor with the Nittany Lions — Pat Chambers — made Penn State nationally relevant by landing top recruits from Philadelphia such as Tony Carr and Lamar Stevens. The Nittany Lions were 21-10 during the 19-20 before the cancellation of the NCAA Tournament due to COVID-19.
Penn State is currently among the top seven schools for 2022 prospect Dereck Lively. The 7-1 big man is a consensus five-star recruit.
