Providence will replace UCLA in the Legends Classic in Newark this November, multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told College Hoops Today on Wednesday night.
The Friars will join a field that also includes Virginia, Northwestern, and Georgia.
With UCLA no longer tied to an early season MTE, the Bruins have again restarted discussions with Gonzaga about a possible Final Four rematch that would take place early next season, according to three separate sources.
The location and time for a game between UCLA and Gonzaga is still TBD.
Mick Cronin said in early May on the March Madness 365 Podcast that he and Mark Few were trying to find a way to play next season, but the two sides ultimately couldn’t find a date that worked. This now could change since the Bruins are no longer a part of the Legends Classic.
Gonzaga and UCLA are currently ranked first and second in the ROTHSTEIN 45.
