Texas is hiring Texas Tech’s Chris Beard as its next head basketball coach, a source confirmed on Thursday.
An official announcement is expected soon.
He replaces Shaka Smart, who left last week to become the head coach at Marquette.
Beard went 112-55 in five seasons in Texas Tech and led the Red Raiders to the 2019 national title game.
He is widely considered among the best tactical coaches in the sport.
Beard is a Texas alum and was a student manager for the Longhorns under Tom Penders.
