Brad Brownell is making an ACC Coach of the Year push
Clemson enters its game tonight at Littlejohn Coliseum against Virginia Tech tied in the loss column with Duke atop the ACC standings and the primary reason why is the man who’s pulling the strings on the sidelines. Respected by his peers as one of the sport’s top tacticians, Brownell has the Tigers usurping preseason expectations after losing their top five scorers — Chase Hunter, Ian Schieffelin, Jaeden Zackery, Viktor Lakhin, and Chauncey Wiggins — from last season’s team that won 27 games and earned a five seed in the NCAA Tournament. Clemson was picked seventh in the ACC Preseason Poll. Brownell and the Tigers are 20-4 and will look to improve their record tonight against the Hokies before traveling to Duke in a massive matchup on Saturday.

Lamar Wilkerson is playing at an elite level
There’s always questions about how players will perform in a power conference when they’re coming from a lower level, but going from Sam Houston to Indiana has had no idea effect on this guy. The 6-6 Wilkerson — who torched Oregon for 41 points on Monday night — has played as well as any guard in the sport over the past few weeks. In the Hoosiers’ last six games, Wilkerson is averaging 28.2 points while shooting 34.9 percent from three-point range and 89.2 percent from the free throw line. Those are All-American caliber numbers. Wilkerson’s emergence has not just cemented Indiana as an NCAA Tournament team in its first year under Darian Devries, but it’s made the Hoosiers look like a legitimate threat to advance in the bracket when they get there.

Zuby Ejiofor is saving his best for last
This is a guy who knows that the hourglass is running out on his college career. The Big East Preseason Player of the Year, Ejiofor had a dominant game last Friday in St. John’s win over UConn at MSG, tallying 21 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, three blocks and two steals. During the Red Storm’s 10-game winning streak, the senior big man is averaging 16.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.3 blocks. Villanova’s Kevin Willard said earlier this week on INSIDE COLLEGE BASKETBALL NOW that the 6-9 Ejiofor was probably “the best player in college basketball”. He’s certainly on the short list.

  • Herb Sendek is having his best season yet at Santa Clara. The Broncos will take a 21-5 record into tonight’s game against Seattle and still have remaining games against both Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s. Don’t discount this squad from being the third team from the WCC in the 2026 NCAA Tournament.
