Things To Sample

St. John’s has one of the best frontcourts in the country
The Red Storm aren’t getting the same attention on the baseline as Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, and Arizona, but that may soon change. St. John’s troika of forwards — Dillon Mitchell, Bryce Hopkins, and Zuby Ejiofor — shined at the highest level in Friday night’s win over UConn at MSG and combined for 50 points, 22 rebounds, and 11 assists against the Huskies. Rick Pitino’s squad will go for its ninth straight win tonight against Xavier at the World’s Most Famous Arena.

Will Wade visits the KFC Yum Center
NC State’s six-game winning streak has put the Wolfpack back on the national map, but it remains to be seen if this team can cement itself atop the ACC standings for good. A win tonight at Louisville would go a long way. NC State’s best wins this season have come away from home in a pair of road triumphs at Clemson and SMU. A victory tonight would usurp both of those results. This is ONLY February.

Arizona visits Allen Fieldhouse
The Wildcats’ 23-0 start is the best start in Big 12 history, but up until last season, they weren’t even a part of the conference. And before that time, the one team that dominated the conference was Kansas. While the additions of Arizona, Houston, and BYU have changed things at the top of this league, the Jayhawks’ dominance at home — especially on ESPN’s Big Monday — has never been in question. Entering tonight’s game in Lawrence, Kansas has never lost on ESPN’s Big Monday under Bill Self, posting an unfathomable 39-0 record. We’ll see if Tommy Lloyd’s squad can change that this evening.

On The Side

  • Florida has won its last three games by an average of 29.6 points. Losing to Auburn a few weeks ago in Gainesville may ultimately have been the best thing to happen to the Gators, who still look like the SEC’s best hope to have a team in the Final Four.
  • Illinois’ Kylan Boswell (hand) is practicing, but not going through live contact, Brad Underwood told College Hoops Today. The 6-2 guard has not played since Jan. 17th and still has no timetable for a return. Boswell averages 14.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists.
  • Iowa State’s T.J. Otzelberger has felt all season long that Nate Heise could be a wildcard for the Cyclones and over the past few weeks, we’re starting to see signs of his potential. In Iowa State’s last three games, the 6-5 Heise is averaging nine points, five rebounds, and 3.3 assists. Remember the name.
  • Given Justin Moore’s lingering injuries, Villanova’s current backcourt combo of Acaden Lewis and Bryce Lindsay is its best perimeter tandem since the Wildcats advanced to the 2022 Final Four under Jay Wright.
