Things To Sample

UConn is destroying Big East teams
The Huskies’ first three league opponents — Butler, DePaul, and Xavier — have been beaten by a combined 60 points. Will this trend continue from now through the end of the regular season? Don’t bet against it. I’m not saying that UConn is going to go a perfect 20-0 in Big East regular season games this season, but don’t be shocked if Dan Hurley’s squad comes close. Remember: The Huskies are 13-1, but have still yet to lose this season when they’re at full strength.

Jon Scheyer switched Duke’s lineup against Georgia Tech
The 38-year old head coach went with a dual point guard attack with Caleb Foster and Cayden Boozer in Wednesday’s 85-79 win over the Yellow Jackets. It’s a big storyline to monitor moving forward. Through the first two months of the 2025-26 season, the Blue Devils have rotated three different options — Dame Sarr, Nikolas Khamenia, and Darren Harris — at small forward, but none of the three were able to win the position outright. This prompted Scheyer to extend Cayden Boozer’s minutes and slide Isaiah Evans — who had 17 points against Georgia Tech — to the wing. Cayden Boozer is averaging 13.0 points in Duke’s last two games and has five assists and just one turnover during that span.

Zuby Ejiofor is starting to look like Zuby Ejiofor
The Big East Preseason Player of the Year is gradually getting back on track. After a sporadic start to the season, the 6-9 Ejiofor had his best game of 2025-26 in St. John’s 95-83 win over Georgetown on Wednesday as he tallied 25 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists in the victory. He’s averaging 19.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists in the Red Storm’s last two games. Rick Pitino’s team is 9-4 and will next face Providence on Saturday at MSG.

On The Side

  • Miami’s Malik Reneau is the best big man in the ACC that not enough people are talking about. The 6-9 big man — who spent the first three years of his college career at Indiana — is averaging career-highs in points (20.9 points), rebounds (6.8), assists (2.2), blocks (1.1), field-goal percentage (59.4), and three-point field-goal percentage (35.5).
  • How important is Saturday’s game against Mississippi State for Texas? After the Longhorns host the Bulldogs, they’ll travel to Tennessee and Alabama back-to-back before returning to Austin to host Vanderbilt. Yikes!
  • Louisville has 51 assists on 88 made field goals in its last three games without Mikel Brown Jr., who has been out of the lineup with a back injury.
  • Austin Swartz is averaging 19.3 points and is 18-37 from three-point range during Creighton’s current four-game winning streak. Don’t count out Greg McDermott’s team in the Big East.
  • Utah State’s MJ Collins (19.9 points) has already made 32 three-point shots this season. He never made more than 30 in a single season during the first three years of his college career at both Virginia Tech and Vanderbilt.
