Mark Few could very well replace one All-American with another.
Filip Petrusev’s decision over the summer to leave Gonzaga and play professionally in Europe may alter the Bulldogs’ overall level of experience entering the upcoming season, but it likely won’t affect their potential ceiling.
A big reason for that is Drew Timme.
“He’s primed for a big year,” Few said of the 6-10 Timme Monday on the College Hoops Today Podcast. “He’s certainly going to get the opportunity. His minutes are going to go up and his touches are going to go up. I think you’ll see a real jump in his productivity.”
Timme averaged 9.8 points and 5.4 rebounds last season as a freshman in just 20.5 minutes while shooting an astronomical 62.1 percent from the field. Now set to be an interior focal point, Timme’s numbers should spike as a sophomore.
He’s also expected to add some new wrinkles to his game, after only attempting a total of two three-point shots as a freshman.
“He worked hard this offseason on stretching his shooting out past the 3-point line,” Few said of Timme. “I think that’s going to show this year.”
With Timme, Corey Kispert, Joel Ayayi, and five-star freshman Jalen Suggs, Gonzaga is again expect to compete for a national title. The Bulldogs are currently fourth in the ROTHSTEIN 45.
