Here’s today’s installment of “The Breakfast Buffet”, a daily column that can be found here every single morning getting you caught up to date on everything that’s happened from the day/night before and everything that’s going to happen in the next 24 hours.
Things To Sample
Khaman Maluach is blossoming for Duke
He doesn’t get as much attention as Cooper Flagg or Kon Knueppel, but Maluach is also a key part of the Blue Devils’ loaded group of freshmen. The 7-2 big man has played some of his best basketball during the NCAA Tournament and is averaging 11.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks in four games during March Madness. Maluach will play a key role in whether or not this program can win two more games this weekend in San Antonio.
Buzz Williams will do a tremendous job at Maryland
This might not seem like a logical fit from a geographical perspective, but Williams spent time recruiting the DMV when he was the head coach at Virginia Tech from 2014-19. He also needed a fresh start and he’ll get one in College Park. After he left Marquette, Williams rebuilt the Hokies and most recently rebuilt Texas A&M into perennial contenders for the NCAA Tournament. Maryland is next on list of programs to fix. Williams’ relentless energy should immediately resonate with the Terps’ passionate fan base.
Michigan is off to a fast start in Portal Kombat
The Wolverines’ season finished last Friday in the Sweet 16 last Friday, but they’ve already started reloading their roster for next year. In back-to-back days, Michigan has added a pair of players — Elliot Cadeau (North Carolina) and Morez Johnson (Illinois) — from the transfer portal who should both be starters in Ann Arbor in 2025-26. Cadeau averaged 9.4 points and 6.2 assists this past season at point guard for the Tar Heels while the 6-9 Johnson averaged 7.0 points and 6.7 rebounds.
On The Side
- There’s only one person that Texas A&M should consider to be its next head coach: Chris Beard.
- Four of five Duke’s national titles under Mike Krzyzewski came as a number one seed. The other — which occurred in 1991 — came as a number two seed. The Blue Devils have not won a national title since 2015.
- Three of Auburn’s five starters — Johni Broome, Denver Jones, and Chad Baker-Mazara — started their careers at mid-major programs before transferring to play for the Tigers.
- Two of Rick Pitino’s former assistants — Kevin Willard (Villanova) and Richard Pitino (Xavier) — are now both head coaches in the Big East.
- One thing I’d like to see? A merger between the Postseason NIT and the College Basketball Crown.
