Shaka Smart is used to coaching one-and-done players during his time at Texas.
During his five seasons in Austin, the 43-year old head coach has tutored three different guys — Jarrett Allen, Mohammed Bamba, and Jaxson Hayes — who all spent a season in college before taking their talents to the NBA.
Another appears to be on the way in Greg Brown, a 6-8 forward who committed to the Longhorns last month. Brown will be a freshman for Texas during the 20-21 season.
“I think the difference between him and those guys (Allen, Bamba, Hayes) is just his combination of athleticism and violence,” Smart said of Brown on this week’s College Hoops Today Podcast. “He attacks the basket. He attacks rebounding. Defensively, he can be very, very aggressive. That’s something that we really want to cultivate in him.”
Texas is set to return everyone of significance from last season’s team that finished 19-12 and tied for third in the Big 12 regular season standings. The Longhorns are currently ranked 15th in the preseason edition of ROTHSTEIN 45.
